Setting Up in San Pablo

Our mission team had a very productive day. After church at Divine Savior in Zacapa, we drove to San Pablo where we were greeted at the clinic by Mirna, the local health worker, and her family. After our hello’s, or, hola’s, we got to work right away. Pills were counted, floors were swept, and equipment was set up. Because of everything that was prepared today we can delve into clinic and construction work confidently tomorrow morning.

San Pablo is quite the sight, especially for the team members who have never been there before. I asked two new comers what they were most surprised about San Pablo. Here is what they said:

“I was surprised by the love of the people of San Pablo. They were so loving and happy, even with so little. It really makes you look at life and always remember to be grateful for all the gifts that God has provided you.”

“The little things mean the most to the people of San Pablo. When we build these houses for these people they are beyond grateful and it gives them a reason to continue to live. We are working for the Lord and yet providing hope for the future of these loving people.”

We are excited to begin serving the people of San Pablo and the surrounding villages tomorrow. Our Spanish word of the day is preparación which means “preparation.” Even though we set up the clinic in one day, it took months of preparation for this trip by many people including those who have a heart for our Guatemalan mission but did not go on the trip. I will post pictures tomorrow.

El Aeropuerto

We left Milwaukee at 4:30 a.m. on Saturday and flew to Houston. Our flight to Houston was delayed which left us a stressful ten minutes to run to our connecting flight to Guatemala City. By the grace of God we made it as the doors to the jet bridge were closing. Not only did we all make it so did all of our luggage. This was truly the biggest God sighting of the day. It was great to see Julio and Nils waiting for us outside the airport. Our voyage continued with a four hour bus ride from Guatemala City to Zacapa where we are staying. We were served a fabulous meal of comfort food, held a devotion, and got settled into our rooms. We are off to a great start as God has brought us here safe and sound and with all of our belongings to boot. Here is a picture of the beautiful mountain ranges outside of Guatemala City..

Our Spanish word of the day is:  Oracion which means prayer.

Dick Schedler was kind enough to design and make crosses to give the families we build houses for.   They are packed along with our supplies.  We  leave St. Paul Friday at 4 pm.   Please pray  for safe travel.
